problem [mod.001]

I want a computer I can understand inside and out. Typical standards of complexity and documentation in computer manufacturing are inadequate.

I'd like my equipment to last long enough for me to reach a high level of understanding (I estimate 7 or more years), and I need it to be portable. Typical standards of durability and serviceability in computer manufacturing are inadequate.

Linux (along with other community OS projects) is fantastic but its strength lies in all the things it protects the user from learning. It is also unmanageably complex for an individual user. While it is useful for many things, it is counterproductive to my goals.

Turtle is my homestead on the digital frontier.

  1. Reading your comment about community OS projects, I was reminded of MikeOS:

I don't believe this project meets your needs better than Forth does, but I provide it as a link and inspiration anyway.

  2. Oh man. That IS cool. Since I'm steering clear of Intel processor architectures it is probably not the best fit, but it is inspiring.
